In the months before summer, work is done on the cleaning and arrangement of the Garriga forest land in order to avoid fires.
These works are done in three lines. The first is the Forest Fire Prevention Plan (PPI) subsidized in part by the Provincial Council of Barcelona, which consists of the maintenance and arrangement of forest tracks in the fire prevention network, leveling and compacting the paths and pruning branches . These maintenance and improvement tasks are carried out this year on the Turó de Pedres Blanques path, on the path of the Els Tremolencs a les Plaines urbanization, passing through the Turó de Pedres Blanques, on the Can Sunyer path and on the Ca l´Oliveró path, towards the term of Cànoves and Samalús.From June 19 to September 3, the Forest Fire Surveillance and Information Plan (PVI), also of the Provincial Council, is carried out, a vehicle surveillance along the network of fire prevention roads.
The staff who carry out the routes have the mission of explaining fire prevention measures to users of agroforestry areas, dissuading them from committing violations of forest fire regulations and environmental protection, and detecting columns of smoke.
The objectives are to prevent fires, minimize their effects, should there be any, and assist the City Council technically. The route runs from 12:30 to 7:30 p.m., which is when there is the greatest risk of fire. In addition to Garriga, it also includes the municipalities of Ametlla, Figaró and les Franqueses.
In addition, the City Council is responsible for the maintenance of the forest fire protection strips of the Garriga. These strips are located around Les Tremolencs and the sectors of Can Vilanova and Can Poi del Bosc. It is a strip of 25 meters wide, of low combustibility, with the mass of trees cleared and without shrubby vegetation.
