The Garriga City Council has issued a Ban with extraordinary measures to save water and alleviate the effects of the drought that will be implemented from today, Monday, February 5.
Faced with the emergency situation due to drought decreed by the Government of the Generalitat of Catalonia this Thursday, February 1, 2024, the Garriga City Council will implement the following measures to alleviate the effects of the lack of water:
- The showers in the pavilions and municipal sports facilities will be closed from Monday to Friday. Weekends will only be opened if there is a sports competition.
- The flow rate of the showers in the municipal facilities will be reduced.
- The lawn of the municipal football field will only be irrigated with groundwater or reclaimed water.
- The municipal swimming pools will adopt several water saving measures, including the closure of the hydromassage service, the reduction of the flow rate and the time of the shower buttons.
- In addition, the flow of showers in other facilities such as the theatre, Can Luna and educational centers will be reduced.
These measures will be applied from Monday 5 February and will remain in force until the drought situation improves.
From the Garriga Town Council, a call is made to the responsibility of the public in order to make careful and rational use of water.
Municipal measures
For its part, the Garriga City Council has been working for some time with measures to save water in municipal services. Since October, cleaning with water has resumed, using non-potable thermal water, taken from the Pou Calent. Until then, cleaning was done dry.
In addition, since July, regenerated water from the Garriga Water Regeneration Station (ERA) has been used to irrigate the town's green areas.
On the other hand, the council is still waiting for subsidies from the Generalitat de Catalunya to implement measures for the use of water from the wells that the municipality has.
